She came to Southern California to serve as Vocal Coach and Music Director for the Broadway Bound Players at the Colony Theater in
Burbank. Embraced by the Entertainment Industry, Matchiner further developed her improv and comedy skills and quickly mastered the art of
voice-over acting. She uses her energy, control, and vocal range to bring commercials and animated characters to life. She also performs
improvisational theater as a member of the popular comedy improv troupe, the Groundlings.

Matchiner teaches voice-over and musical theater at various Southland locations, using her connections, experience, and expertise to help
others fulfill their dreams. Her students have appeared on Star Search, America’s Got Talent, America’s Most Talented Kid, and American
Idol. They have earned awards, starred in films, gotten agents, joined national touring companies, and signed recording contracts. Dubbed the
“auto mechanic of the voice,” Matchiner has become the go-to resource for producers, agents, and casting directors looking for vocal talent.

With her lovely voice and lively personality, this incredible performer and inspiring teacher brings an understanding of the industry and an
infectious energy to all her classes. She nurtures the talents of her students and helps them realize their dreams—just as they have helped
Matchiner realize hers.
Kathy Matchiner knew at a young age that she would become a singer, performer, and
teacher. After earning a BA in Music Performance and Music Education from Portland State
University, Matchiner spent two years studying opera in Italy, performing leading roles on
some of the finest stages in Europe.

Matchiner returned to the United States to study at Juilliard under distinguished soprano
Ellen Faull. While in New York, Matchiner also developed her talent for improvisation and
scene work. She was soon selected for the elite academy program at the Metropolitan
Opera. She performed soloist roles at numerous venues, including the New York City Opera
House, the Danny Kaye Playhouse, and Carnegie Hall.

Matchiner began to realize the teaching component of her dreams when she served as
Vocal Studies Director at Clatsop College. There she observed the plight of music
graduates who, though talented, lacked the experience of singing with a live orchestra.
Matchiner decided to give them just that. She established the Astoria Music Festival and
Academy, which quickly became one of the premiere vocal festivals in the U.S.
